A lively start to Embedded World 2018!
I blame the oracle for its failure to warn me at Paris CDG that my luggage wouldn’t be accompanying me to Nuremberg. Obviously, it had nothing to do with the gross incompetence, I mean effortless efficiency, of the airport. I still can’t quite decide whether it’s the worst airport I’ve ever had the misfortune of visiting – an accolade that I’ve reserved for Manila for many years.
One of the biggest new trends we are seeing this year is the growing demand for edge computing systems. The main reason for this is that it is much faster and cheaper to process and analyze data captured by sensors locally on the system rather than send it to the corporate network or cloud over expensive and often low-bandwidth wireless connections.
Shanghai. Check. Beijing. Check. Shenzhen. Check. Taipei. Check. Not to mention a few earthquakes thrown into the mix. Now that the Chinese New Year party season is finally over, I’m looking forward to the actual holiday!
Even though in HR-terms I’m on vacation, I’ve been spending a lot of my time in Moulton preparing all the marketing collateral for Embedded World 2018. There’s nothing like a long rural walk to clear the mind and get the creative juices flowing.
CES Asia was a lot of fun last week. Judging by the dizzying array of robots, autos, drones, and smart home devices on display, the China IoT market is in a robust and healthy state. The days when the country’s tech industry was a follower are well and truly over.
