We’ve had a very positive response to our recent launch of the VIA Mobile360 AI Forklift Safety Kit. Interest has been strong from customers throughout the world – a clear sign of the high priority that the industry is placing on using new technologies like Computer Vision and AI to preventing accidents involving these indispensable but heavy and unwieldy machines that can weigh up to three times as much as most cars.
According to OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration), forklift accidents result in 85 fatalities, 34,900 serious injuries, and 61,800 minor injuries a year in the US alone. Remarkably, the organization estimates that 70% of all these forklift accidents could have been prevented if more stringent training policies had been implemented.
Our immediate aim with the VIA Mobile360 AI Forklift Safety Kit is to help prevent accidents by improving operator situational awareness with real-time 360-degree surround view video, delivering DMOD (Dynamic Moving Object Detection) alerts when other people get too close to the vehicle, and warning of dangerous or undesirable operator behavior with a DMS (Driver Monitoring System).
Over the longer term, we see tremendous potential for the kit as a rich source of data for enabling the creation of interactive multimedia training tools for upgrading the skills and behaviors of operators. By capturing videos of dangerous incidents and actions and uploading them to the cloud for analysis, the kit will make it easier for companies to identify areas for improvement and integrate salient examples into operator training programs. In the same way, it will allow them to harness data from the DMS to more thoroughly evaluate operator performance and identify additional training needs.
With its flexible design and powerful AI capabilities, the kit opens up a wealth of possibilities for preventing forklift accidents though better operator training and situational awareness. To learn more, please click here.
