Greetings from a grey but very friendly Indianapolis. The night receptionist at my hotel gave me such an irrepressible smile when I went down to the lobby at four o’clock this morning that I had no idea how to reciprocate it.
Today, we’ll be setting up the VIA booth for Work Truck Show 2020. Although the event kicks off today with a series of keynotes and workshops, the exhibition itself doesn’t begin until tomorrow. Our booth is located at Level 1, #5507, if you would like to stop by.
Our lineup is similar to the one we had at Embedded World 2020 last week, including the VIA Mobile360 D700 AI Dash Cam and VIA Mobile360 M800 Series in-vehicle safety systems. If you’re interested in learning more about these, please check out these videos featuring my colleague Mike Fox that we shot at the event last week.
We’ve also posted a video of the presentation I gave at Embedded World 2020. Entitled “Harnessing AI & Computer Vision Technologies to Enhance Vehicle Safety”, this provides an overview of our overall strategy and the opportunities we see for VIA in the market. Certainly for now, our main focus is on the commercial vehicle upgrade segment for applications such as fleet management, public transportation, and mining.
While we do see huge potential for emerging MAAS (Mobility as a Service) platforms, we believe that there a lot of regulatory and commercial challenges that will need to be overcome before the market begins to grow at a substantial rate. There is going to be a hell of a battle for control of these platforms between existing auto makers, ridesharing and delivery app and service providers, startups, and city and municipal governments. It certainly won’t be for the faint-hearted!
Don’t believe anyone who says they know who the winners will be. It’s going to take quite a while for the dust to settle.
