Confidence and arrogance

子曰:「君子泰而不驕,小人驕而不泰。」
Confucius said: “A leader is confident but never arrogant. A petty person is arrogant but never confident.”

There’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Indeed, it can often be very difficult to distinguish between the two.

Confidence requires a foundation that helps keep you secure in the knowledge that you are following the right path. Arrogance, however, is based on feelings of insecurity caused by the certainty that one day you’ll get found out.
