Room for improvement

子曰:「文,莫吾猶人也。躬行君子,則吾未之有得。」
Confucius said: “Although my commitment is as strong as anyone’s when it comes to cultural knowledge and refinement, I have not yet succeeded in becoming a true leader in my personal conduct.”

Confucius isn’t so much criticizing himself for his inability to live up to the high standards of behavior he has set himself; he’s reminding himself that no matter how much progress he makes towards achieving this goal, he shouldn’t become complacent.

There is always room for improvement.
