Tailor your message


Confucius said: “You can talk about lofty matters to people who are above average; but it’s pointless to talk about them to people who are below average.”

At first sight it might appear that Confucius is being more than a little pompous here, but his point is that you should tailor your teaching to match the needs of your students.

There’s no point trying to teach advanced calculus to a first grade class that hasn’t yet learned the basics of mathematics. In other words, use your common sense.
