Confucius said: “Those who know the Way are not the equal of those who love it; those who love the Way are not the equal of those who take joy in it.”
It isn’t clear from the text what exactly Confucius is referring to with the pronoun之(zhī) in the opening clause of this passage. Most commentators assume that he is talking about his Way (道/dào).
While understanding the nature of the Way is a vital first step, it only makes you a learner driver. It is only when you fully embrace the Way with your heart and soul that you truly make it part of your life and practice it effortlessly and spontaneously like a Formula 1 star flying round a grand prix circuit.
