I’m back to my favorite hotel in Shanghai, the Jin Jiang Pacific, enjoying some vintage 1930’s-style luxury after taking my first ever ride on a Chinese High Speed Train from Wuxi.
The 140km trip took only 58 minutes despite a few stops along the way. I’m sure it didn’t reach its top speed but the experience was highly impressive and a bargain for only RMB39 (just over US$6.)
I don’t understand why countries like the US and the UK are so slow in investing high speed rail transportation despite their obvious benefits. The speed with which China has built its own huge network puts their bumbling efforts to shame.
