Less than 5km away from Sanxia is the delightfully-named Yingge (oriole song township), the pottery capital of Taiwan.
Like Sanxia, Yingge has its very own “Old Street”, though most of the buildings along it seem to be of quite a modern vintage. Still, it’s a pleasant enough place to stroll along and browse among the wares on display in the pottery shops and artist studios. I don’t claim to be a connoisseur, but there’s a lot of interesting stuff to look at.
There’s also an impressive Ceramics Museum that traces the history of the local pottery industry, which dates back over 200 years.
