Dalongdong Baoan Temple Video

Close by the Taipei Confucius Temple is the delightful Daoist Dalongdong Baoan Temple, a 250-year-old structure that provides an amazingly rich repository of Taiwan culture, history, and folklore.

Founded in 1760 by immigrants from Quanzhou in Fujian province, the temple is primarily dedicated to the 11th century Daoist deity Baosheng Dadi (保生大帝), a Soong Dynasty doctor famous for his healing powers, making it a popular destination for people looking to pray for good health.

It’s also a magnet for expectant mothers with its shrine to the birth goddess, who is assisted by twelve female assistants, each of which helps out with childbirth during a particular month.

The temple underwent a major renovation between 1995 and 2002, and holds many events during the year, including its annual folk arts festival from March to June.
