Guangfu Township, Hualien

Just like Lintianshan (林田山), Guangfu Township (光復鄉) has some delightful old Japanese colonial houses. Built using Chinese cypress trees, these were constructed for the use of managers and employees of the nearby Hualien Sugar Factory. Many of them are beautifully preserved and are still lived in today or have been converted into coffee shops and shops.

Guangfu is a lot more commercial than Lintianshan, and is particularly well-known for its ice cream. There’s also an old station and goods yard recalling the days when the railways were the transportation backbone of the area. Today, it can be reached from Highway 9.
