Will tablets take off in the Middle East? Judging by the enthusiastic response we have received to the devices based on WM8650 SoC that we’ve been showing at Gitex, the answer is a resounding yes.
Many of the customers I spoke to see a great opportunity for tablets as an affordable consumer Internet browsing, multimedia, and computing device, while others believe there is huge potential for them in education and a variety of corporate applications such as sales force automation.
I was too busy to take many photos at Gitex yesterday, but it was certainly a very interesting start to the show. The PC market is growing fast in the region, so too are mobile phones, and as for tablets…
Let’s put it this way: the interest is enormous.

As I was leaving the Aakash tablet launch yesterday, it suddenly occurred to me that I now have a new model for summarizing the three key segments that have emerged in the tablet market. Like any model, it has a few gaps but I think it provides a useful lens for looking at the tablet triangle.
