The ruler of a state calls his wife ‘My Lady’. She calls herself ‘Your Little Maiden’. The people call her ‘The Lord’s Lady’, but when talking to people from other states, they call her ‘Our Little Lord’. People from other states also call her ‘The Lord’s Lady’.
Nobody seems to have any idea how this passage managed to end up at the end of Book 16. Most likely, it was culled from some text on ritual by some nameless editor.
Its only distinctive feature is that it is one of the few chapters in the Analects that mentions the female sex. Now at least you know that the wife of a ruler called herself “Your Little Maiden” whenever she addressed him.
