Devotion to duty

子曰:「事君敬其事而後其食。」
Confucius said: “In serving your ruler, your devotion to duty should come before any consideration of your salary.”

The leader focuses on carrying out his responsibilities without thinking about the potential rewards. He is concerned about doing his job well rather than how much he makes as a result of it.
