A different way

子曰:「道不同,不相為謀。」
Confucius said: “There’s no point in taking counsel from people following a different Way.”

Presumably Confucius is warning against following the teachings of other schools that did not subscribe to his own way of thinking.

Even though it is now primarily identified with Taoism, the Way (道/dào) was a generic term in early China that was used to describe many different philosophical and religious paths.
