Welcome to my new BrownBeat home. Moving my old content across to WordPress has been a time-consuming but enjoyable task, giving me ample opportunity to wallow in some wonderful memories of trips I’ve taken over the years.

India has provided many of the highlights, not least the exquisite Kesava Temple in Somanathapur pictured above. So too has China, including only my second visit to Chengdu last year since I studied there for a year in 1985.

China continues to amaze me every time I go there for the sheer speed and scope of its modernization that began in the early 1980s. Never before in history has a single country raised so many people out of poverty in such a short space of time.

India, on the other hand, still has a lot of work to do in order to build an infrastructure like China’s that will power its future economic growth. I’m sure that one day it will get there, but it’s going to take a long time.
